In a time when many automakers are basically shuttering their sedan product lines, Nissan continues to provide its customers with four-door cars that offer a long list of features and plenty of performance without sacrificing fuel economy. A comparison between the 2020 Nissan Altima vs. 2020 Toyota Corolla will provide potential buyers a clear picture to how these efforts are paying off. The 2020 Altima is a continuation of a radical redesign that took place last year with several more systems and capabilities added. Even the briefest of examinations will show that the 2020 Altima is able to outperform its longtime Toyota rival in a few key areas, including connectivity availability, performance output and cargo volume. Even with all of the changes made to the last couple versions of the Nissan Altima, it still has a tough journey ahead. The 2020 Altima joins many of its fellow in-brand siblings in making the latest safety monitoring system standard equipment. Future owners of the 2020 Nissan Altima will find the manufacturer’s Safety Shield 360 system on all three trim grades will have Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and High Beam Assist. Toyota offers a similar system, but not all of its features are standard on all versions of the 2020 Corolla. In a related vein, of the 2020 Altima and the 2020 Corolla, only the Nissan sedan makes all-wheel-drive available to its owners.
2020 Nissan Altima
The 2020 Nissan Altima is available with two powertrain options. Customers choosing a version with the base equipment will have a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine under the hood that will make 188 horsepower (w/ FWD). A turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder platform is also available that will make 248 horsepower. No version of the 2020 Corolla can match these numbers.
As was alluded to earlier, connectivity technology is an important strength the 2020 Altima has over the 2020 Corolla. Every trim grade of the 2020 Nissan Altima is outfitted with a smartphone-compatible infotainment system that can work with both the Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ suites. Toyota Corolla owners will only be able use Apple apps with Android support unavailable.
